Rationale:

The banking sector, like many other aspects of business is evolving, being driven by digitization and global sustainable principles. The emerging trends have huge impact on the way business is run, requiring entities to quickly adapt to new trends and run along or possibly ahead of new developments. Balancing environmental stewardship, social and economic equity in workplaces, ethical governance, risk and reputational management and generating value for all stakeholders are some of the realities that banks have to manage responsibly.

Course Objective:

  • Understand what ESG stands for, how it emerged, and why it matters to financial institutions.
  • Gain insight into key ESG regulations, frameworks and reporting expectations in a digital banking environment [i.e. GSBPs, UNSDGs, IFRS 1 &2, Paris Accord, IFC Performance Standards]
  • Appreciate how a digitalized environment enables ESG adoption in financial institutions, by leveraging its opportunities, and challenges.
  • Adopt a stepbystep framework (or checklist) for how a financial institution can drive ESG adoption in a digitalized environment.
  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) for ESG to aligned with strategic goals and use reporting tools for internal management, disclosures and regulatory compliance.
  • Explore how ESG adoption using digital tools can impact financial institutions in the present and while monitoring future or emerging trends.
  • Identifying major barriers to ESG adoption in digitalized settings and implement approaches to mitigate them.
